Long-Duration Marker Sticks

These are the sticks that go on a route marker, a tent guy line, a gate post or a piece of kit that has to be findable at three in the morning. Duration is the whole specification and brightness is deliberately traded away for it.

A twelve-hour rating means the stick is still emitting measurable light at twelve hours. It does not mean it looks at hour eleven the way it looked at minute one — the curve drops steeply and then runs long and dim. For finding a marker in the dark that is completely sufficient. For anything anybody has to look at, it is not.

Does a 12-hour stick really glow for 12 hours?

It is still emitting light at twelve hours, which is what the rating means. It is not still bright — the curve falls steeply and then runs long and dim. For finding a marker that is exactly what you want. For lighting anything, it is not.

Can we use them as a light source?

No, and we would rather say so. A glow stick marks a position; it does not illuminate an area. If somebody needs to read, work or walk safely by it, you need a torch, and we do not make those.
